The Rochester Red Wings fell to Syracuse Saturday night, 2-1, after the game was called in the bottom of the seventh inning due to rain. With the loss, Rochester now falls to 9-13-2 through their first 24 series. LF Darren Baker accounted for two of the teams’ five hits in the contest, his fourth-straight multi-hit performance.
After two scoreless innings, The Red Wings struck first in the top of the third inning. 2B Jordy Barley singled up the middle then stole second for his fourth stolen base of the season. The next batter, Darren Baker singled up the middle and drove in Barley, giving the Red Wings a 1-0 lead.
In the bottom of the fourth inning, the Mets were able to get on the board. RF Joe Suozzi led off the inning with a single, which was followed by a walk by CF Brandon Mcllwain. Two batters later, after a groundout moved the runners to second and third, 3B Jaylen Palmer brought home Suozzi on a sacrifice fly to tie the game 1-1.
Syracuse took a 2-1 lead in the bottom half of the sixth after Joe Suzzi scored on a double play by C Nick Meyer. The game was called in the bottom of the seventh inning due to rain, with a final score of 2-1.
Diamond Pro Player of the game honors go to LF Darren Baker. The California native went 2-for-3 with two singles and an RBI. He has now collected multiple hits in four-straight games for the first time since 8/18-26/2022 with Double-A Harrisburg. This was his team-leading 30th multi-hit game of the season.
RHP Roddery Munoz got the start for the Red Wings, tossing 3.0 innings, allowing one earned run on four hits while walking three and striking out three. RHP Luis Reyes hurled two scoreless innings in relief, allowing one walk and striking out one. RHP Junior Fernandez pitched one inning in relief, allowing one earned run on three hits and walking one.
Rochester looks to get back in the win column Sunday afternoon, their last game of the 2023 season against the Mets. LHP Alemao Hernandez looks to log his third consecutive winning decision for Rochester, first pitch is set for 1:05 p.m.
