Asheville Pitching Silences Winston-Salem
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (August 24, 2022) — The Winston-Salem Dash were shutout 9-0 against the Asheville Tourists. Brooks Gosswein of the Dash and Rhett Kouba of Asheville both twirled three shutout innings apiece to open the ballgame, before the Tourists finally broke through against Gosswein in the top of the fourth.
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (August 24, 2022) — The Winston-Salem Dash were shutout 9-0 against the Asheville Tourists.
Brooks Gosswein of the Dash and Rhett Kouba of Asheville both twirled three shutout innings apiece to open the ballgame, before the Tourists finally broke through against Gosswein in the top of the fourth. Zach Daniels drew a walk, then Luis Santana singled right after him. That brought Miguel Palma to the plate, and he singled right back up the middle to score both Daniels and Santana, putting the Tourists ahead 2-0.
Gosswein came back out to start the fifth inning, and got two quick outs before running into a jam. He plunked Colin Barber, then allowed a single to Michael Sandle which pushed Barber to third. Zach Daniels then plated Barber on an RBI single, prompting a conversation on the mound. After that chat, Santana doubled to push Sandle across to give Asheville a 4-0 lead.
Asheville continued to hold Winston-Salem off the board, while extending their lead in the top of the seventh. Colin Barber rapped a one-out single into right field, then Michael Sandle walked after him. Luis Santana pushed the count to 2-0, before he lined the next pitch into the left field corner to score two runs, pushing the Tourists lead to 6-0.
Asheville added three more runs in the top of the ninth on an RBI triple and a two-run home run, as they took down the Dash 9-0. Jose Betances got the win out of the Asheville bullpen, with Aaron Brown earning a save with his four innings of scoreless baseball. Gosswein took the loss for Winston-Salem.
