WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (August 30, 2022) — The Winston-Salem Dash fell 7-1 to the Greensboro Grasshoppers in the series opener.
The ‘Hoppers took the early edge on their very first batter of the game, as Mike Jarvis launched a leadoff home run in the bottom of the first inning. Then in the bottom of the second, Jase Bowen also went deep, a solo shot as well to put Greensboro up 2-0.
Greensboro scored in the third inning as well. First, Mike Jarvis walked and then advanced to second base on a passed ball. Hudson Head then tripled, driving Jarvis home with a third run. Jacob Gonzalez was up next, and he plated Head with a sacrifice fly to center field.
The Grasshoppers kept the offense rolling in the fourth, as Eli Wilson led off with a triple. Bowen drew a walk after that, then attempted to steal second base. Winston-Salem threw down to the bag, but an error allowed Bowen to slide in safely, and let Wilson jog home from third to make it 5-0. Later in the same inning, a 6-4-3 double play was enough to score Bowen from third base to give Greensboro a 6-0 lead after four innings.
Greensboro tacked on another run in the seventh, as Justin Meis blanked the Dash lineup through seven innings of three-hit, two-walk baseball. Winston-Salem did break through in the eighth, as James Beard doubled, moved to third on a E6, then scored on a sacrifice fly by Alsander Womack. Greensboro was able to hold on, to win 7-1. Meis got the win, with Brooks Gosswein taking the loss.
